The trouble is that I have seen references to TWO different alignment tools for the '98 Mustang 3.8L, and at least THREE different crank positions! So which is the correct combination of tool/crank position for the '98 Mustang V6? A new CMP assembly and oil pump intermediate shaft should be here tomorrow.ĭoes anyone know the EXACT procedure for timing the new sensor/housing in a '98 3.8L Mustang? All of the procedures I have seen (either online or in a 94-98 Mustang Chilton's manual) are similar: with the crank at a specific position, use an alignment tool to align the CMP "vane" to the housing, and then lock the housing down.

Long story short: the bearing/bushing in the cam position sensor housing ("cam synchronizer") in my GF's 98 V6 Mustang started squeaking loudly a few days ago.
